Rollin’ and Strollin’ into Summer

All were welcome at the Rollin’ and Strollin’ community bike event held in the parking lot of the Orange County South Trail Branch Library on Saturday, May 20, 2023. This family-friendly event was made possible with help from several organizations: OBT Development Board, FDOT, Orange County Fire Department, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Kyle’s Bike Shop, Seer Productions, Florida Freewheelers, ASHA Planning, and Orange County Library Services-South Trail Branch.

Bikes from Kyle’s Bike Shop were given away to families as part of this event, which consisted of 11 bicycle packages, each including a bike pump and U-lock. Orange County Fire Department had a van set up with educational materials, and FDOT held fittings and gave away 22 helmets! Best Foot Forward was also in attendance, providing attendees with educational material on pedestrian safety.

Bike/Walk Central Florida set up several bike “skills” stations with space for kids to learn and practice in a safe and encouraging environment. With the help of volunteers and staff, kids were able to complete the skill stations throughout the morning.

The mission of the Best Foot Forward program is to lower pedestrian fatalities and injuries by getting more drivers to yield and stop for people in crosswalks, as Florida Law requires.
