Crossing Guard and Child Hit by Driver While Crossing in Orlando

On Thursday, just seven days back into the 2023 school year, a collision near the Academic Center for Excellence in Orlando resulted in a child and crossing guard being transported to the hospital, according to the Orlando Police Department. The incident occurred at the intersection of Parramore Avenue and Livingston Street, where the two individuals were struck by a vehicle. Although both are expected to recover, no details were provided on the extent of their injuries or current condition.

The driver of the vehicle was deemed at fault for the crash, however, further information on the cause was not disclosed.

The City of Orlando’s Crossing Guards enforce 176 crosswalks across 44 schools. The tragic incident occurred just a few weeks before the first Operation Best Foot Forward high-visibility enforcement of the year, focusing on school crosswalks and Crossing Guards. The enforcement will begin Monday, January 30, and run through Friday, February 10, 2023. These efforts align with Crossing Guard Appreciation Day, honoring those working to keep our kids safe, taking place this year on Friday, February 3.
