OPD Warns Walkers of Ped Laws in Time for SunRail

ped enforcement“Just as quick as it can be safe, it can turn unsafe,” says OPD Sgt. Richard Ruth, the lead on the city’s pedestrian and bike safety enforcement efforts along with their partner Best Foot Forward. OPD has received FDOT grant funds for additional enforcement to help tackle the persistent problem: people darting across cross lanes of traffic and putting drivers and their lives in danger.

BFF’s Ped Patrol launched in April and OPD, on average, issues more than 300 warnings over the course of three details of three hours each. OPD is focusing on the roads around SunRail Stations – like Church Street, Orange Avenue and Garland Avenue and the higher speed corridors – Kirkman, Conroy and Semoran Blvd.  Walkers can expect to see more ped patrolling in May.  For a list of the ped laws, click here.
