The Orlando Business Journal asked its readers to grade International Drive’s walkability. An overwhelming majority believe that I-Drive has a ways to go before its deemed walkable. (Check out the chart to the right)
This survey arose after the Orange County I-Drive Steering Committee conducted a comprehensive study of this corridor and discovered it scored fairly low in offering amenities that improve walkability, like alternative and connecting transportation and pedestrian hub areas.
So how can I-Drive’s walkability improve? One option they proposed is a pedestrian bridge at the intersection of I-Drive and Sand Lake Road, connecting four of I-Drive’s newest additions – the future $460 million SkyPlex project, Mango’s Tropical Cafe, the Wyndham Orlando Resort and I-Shops project and the remake of the World’s Largest Entertainment McDonald’s. Looking forward to moving this idea into action!
