ENFORCEMENT

Round 2 Success

The Orlando Police Department and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office just completed another 2-week round of traffic enforcement. Statistics are not yet compiled, but based upon the TV and Radio news coverage, it looks as though many drivers had not yet gotten the word; now they know!

EDUCATION

WalkSafe Workshop

Several local elementary educators attended  a WalkSafe workshop held November 7, hosted by Joseph Cormier  and Spring Lake Elementary School. Katie Swidarski (in photograph, with Joseph Cormier), Project Coordinator of WalkSafe, conducted the aftenoon workshop. She was joined by Juanita Black, Executive Director of the Children’s Safety Village and Amanda Day, with Best Foot Forward.

ENGINEERING

Intersection Facelift

The City of Orlando and Orange County’s Public Works Departments have given several dangerous intersections a safety facelift. In the College Park area, the intersection of Edgewater Drive and Shady Lane has been problematic as seen here in a video from November, 2009. The new crosswalk, on the south side of Shady Lane, is the FDOT special emphasis type, with a brick pattern to match sidewalk accents.  Yield to ped messages and signs will be added soon.
